North Male Atoll is a chain of volcanic islands. This atoll is considered the most famous dive site in the archipelago. People actively engage in drift diving and wreck diving here. The underwater landscape is represented by coral reefs, caves, channels, and walls. You can make an exciting dive to a sunken cargo ship. There are quiet and untouched places for diving in the northern part. One of the major diving areas is the Vadhoo Channel that separates North and South Male. Here, you can find two protected marine reserves such as the Lion's head and Kuda Haa Thila where you can enjoy wild marine life.
Male, the capital, is located in Northern Male. Other atolls from this group can be reached by both traditional boats and speedboats. And the fastest way to get there is a seaplane flight.
The climate on the Northern Male allows you to dive all year round, except for the short-term rainy season which usually lasts from April to October. The comfortable months to visit are from December to March when there are sunny weather and no rain. At this time, the air temperature is +28 °C and water temperature is +27 °C. November is the transitional month when there are strong currents.
Reefs and wrecks are the main dive spots of the North Male Atoll. The Maldives Victory Wreck with a length of 110 meters lies at a depth from 12 to 35 meters. Popular dive sites are Girifushi Thila with strong currents, Nasimo Thila with rocks and caves, and Banana Reef with ancient table corals.
